Reliable career advice for Web designers can be hard to come by. The field is competitive and extremely specialized. If you are trying to get a foothold in the industry, there are a few places you can look for help.

Your school. Teachers in the field are often good resources that will give open, honest feedback and direction. If you attended a college or university, it can be a good idea to keep in touch with your instructors. The career center may also be a help.Friends in the field. Nobody understands Web design quite like a fellow designer. If you have a friend or two in the business, ask them if they would mind reviewing your portfolio. Their feedback can be very valuable. If you want to, you can offer to review theirs in return. Keep in touch with them as well--you can swap job leads and industry news.Talent agencies. Good talent agencies will help you streamline your resume and tweak your portfolio. They have their finger on the pulse of the industry--just make sure you are in touch with one that specializes in the creative field. If they have a long history of representing those in your Web design--all the better.Mentors. Do you have a mentor at work? Mentors can be terrific people to tap for career advice. They enjoy helping people through the process of discovering how they fit best in the field.If you are frustrated by the lack of information out there on Web design careers, try one of these resources and see if it helps.
